William Omar
Landrón, artistically known as "Don Omar" is Puerto Rico's
up-and-coming rap/reggaeton artist.
He started singing in church, where he was part of such
groups as the No Limits House Band and the Christian Rappers.
But, in the last three years, his participation on more
than 20 rap albums has made him very popular in the genre.
His latest contribution was to MVP, a multi-artist compilation
in which his song "Dale Don Dale" was chosen as the radio
single, helping the album sell more than 60,000 copies.
Don
Omar recently released his debut album, The Last Don under
record label VI Music and under the guidance of Hector
"El Bambino," one-half of the popular reggaeton duo Hector
& Tito.
The Last Don guest artists as diverse as rock band
La Secta, tropical/merengue acts Tony Tun Tun and
Limi-T 21, and reggaeton artists Hector & Tito, and
Daddy Yankee.
"My best
achievement is having made myself known as a respectable
artist," says Omar. "The best payment an artist can
have is the support and respect of the audience. Without
having a solo album out in the market, I have the
privilege of counting both.
With all
of Don Omar's achievements, not just as a singer but
also as a composer Don Omar has sold more than 200,000
copies in his musical career. This album is a firm and
solid step towards the international development of
this talented artist.
Don Omar is a talented
performer and composer with one-of-a-kind musical sensibilities,
Puerto Rican musical phenomenon Don Omar's first hit
single, "Dale Don Dale," quickly attained
sales of more than 500,000 copies once it hit the air
waves nationwide and made Don Omar one of the most recognizable
artists in the emerging Rap/Reggaeton genre.
His first
album, The Last Don, conquered markets all over the world
and vaulted him immediately to international stardom.
Just months later, the album was nominated for "Latin
Pop Album of the Year by
a New Artist"
and "Latin Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year" at
the 2003 Billboard Latin Music Awards. VI Music/Universal
recently released The Last Don Live, a concert version
of The Last Don. Though Don Omar is only one of several
major exponents of the "Reggaeton" genre, Don
Omar has carved out quite a reputation for himself in
a short time with his Latin-tinged take on conventional
rap subjects, set to an irresistible rhythm.
