today that
the next film
to air in
the Mega Cine
series will
be “Guantanamera,”
a satirical
film directed
by Juan Carlos
Tabío.
The film will
air this Saturday,
July 14 at
8:00 PM with
Cuban actor
Gilberto Reyes
as host.
“Guantanamera”
includes
a stellar
cast such
us Carlos
Cruz, Mirta
Ibarra,
Jorge Perogurría,
Raúl
Eguren,
Pedro Fernández
and Luis
Alberto
García.
The movie
begins with
the death
of Aunt
Yoyita,
an old Cuban
woman who
passes away
from a sudden
heart attack
during a
visit to
her relatives
in Guantánamo.
As a result,
her relatives
must take
her body
back to
Havana to
make funeral
arrangements
and prepare
for the
burial.
On the way
to the capital,
the characters
find themselves
in absurd
situations,
which make
for hilarious
storylines
leading
up to an
unexpected
ending.
Much like
“La
muerte de
un burócrata,”
which aired
last week
on Mega
Cine, this
film shows
how difficult
it is to
rest in
peace when
there are
so many
bureaucratic
issues that
need to
be handled
first.
“Guantanamera”
has won various
awards for
its cinematography,
including;
Best Original
Screenplay,
CINEMA WRITERS
CIRCLE AWARDS,
Spain, Best
Foreign Film,
Fort Lauderdale
International
Film Festival,
Best Actor
and Best Film,
