New
York – Preliminary Nielsen ratings reveal
the amateur talent featured on "American
Idol" is more appealing to viewers than the
professionals featured on Wednesday night's Grammy
Awards.
Nearly twice as many people
opted for "Idol" than the Grammys
when the two singer showcases aired head-to-head
Wednesday night.
According
to the preliminary Nielsen numbers, the "Idol"
audience on Fox was more than 28 million, while
the Grammy Awards on CBS were being watched
by about 15 million during that same hour.
After "Idol" went
off the air, the Grammys picked up some viewers,
overall averaging more than 17.5 million during
the three prime-time hours.
During the overlapping hour,
those watching "American Idol" missed
performances by Madonna, John Legend, Coldplay
and U2 on the Grammys.
