Miami, FL – Conquering
Mexico "will be my top priority in 2006"
Daddy Yankee stated, the Puerto Rican singer who
confirmed this week his Latin artist status topping
the Hispanic popularity charts in the US.
"Mexico is my promotion
priority because it is the only market I am
missing to conquer", the Caribbean idol,
whose real name is Raymond Ayala told Notimex.
He explained that his album
"Barrio fino", which has sold two
million copies, had a good welcome in Mexico
thanks to the big success of songs such as "Gasolina"
and "Lo que paso paso".
"But I know I can achieve
even more in comparison with other Latin American
countries", he added remembering that this
country has over 100 million citizens and his
last visit to Mexico was last May.
Daddy Yankee explained "my
face has not been seen a lot (in Mexico) because
other work commitments I had in Europe, South
America and US, but in 2006 Mexico will be my
priority and we will be there soon".
He regretted his career does
not allow him to be in his family's life every
day, but "thanks to technology I am in
touch with them".
Ayala, who would like to have
a reggaeton duo with his namesake and Mexican
idol Ramon Ayala, considered the success he
has had in America, Europe and even Japan as
"much more than a blessing".
His latest album "Barrio
fino en directo", debuted among the most-sold
albums in the US. According to Ayala , one million
copies were sold during the pre-sale it sold
and in the US alone more than 100 thousand copies
were sold.
Daddy Yankee is keeping his
last work "Barrio fino" in the ninth
place of the Hispanic list above mentioned.
According to the weekly placing
of the specialized magazine Billboard, released
last Thursday, the new album of the also called
"Cangri" is in the place 24 among
the most-sold albums in the American general
market.
Also, his hit "Rompe",
first single of the album is in the first place
of songs played by radio stations in Spanish
in the US.
"Barrio fino en directo"
was launched under the label El Cartel/Interscope
Records/, it tripled the launching sales of
his colleagues Don Omar and Wisin y Yandel.
This is Daddy Yankee's fourth
album after "Barrio fino", "Ahora
le toca al Cangri" and "Los Homerun-Es".
The first one has been for 75 weeks in the country's
Latin hit parade.
"Barrio fino en directo",
which was released last December 13, includes
16 songs, five of them new and live performances
of the hits "Lo que paso paso", "Corazones"
and "Gasolina".
The new songs are "Rompe",
"Gangsta zone" in a duo with Snoop
Dogg, "Machete", "Machicando",
and "El truco", with Colombian folk
song tunes.
